Delmar Sheridan Bump was born on January 24, 1932 to Vern Bump and Ila (Babcock) Bump at the family home located at Road 17 and Avenue 23 1/2 in Chowchilla, California. He was the youngest of his siblings, brother Dalton, and sisters Irma and Nada. Delmar passed away on February 3, 2026 with his family at his side at the age of 94.
Delmar attended Chowchilla Elementary and Chowchilla Union High School, graduating in the class of 1950. He married Velma Shay on December 30, 1950 and raised 4 sons, Chuck, David, Doug, and Alan.
Delmar was very active as a retail clerk, he became a Sales Rep for California State Auto Association (AAA) in 1970 retiring in 1993.
Delmar was very active in the community. He served on the Madera County Recreation Commission for 10 years. He was a Lions Club Member during the years from 1968 to 1993 serving as President from 1973 to 1974. He was also a member of the Chowchilla Boat Ski Club, Chowchilla Pilots Association being President for 1 year, the Chowchilla RV'ers, and he also coached baseball, Pony League for 2 years, Little League for 1 year, and Babe Ruth for 5 years.
In their retirement he enjoyed traveling with Velma towing their RV trailer, seeing multiple destinations sometimes months at a time including a trip to Alaska.
Delmar is survived by his wife Velma, his Sons, 7 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. All these generations enjoyed splashing around in Delmar's pool which was his pride and joy.
A Visitation and Viewing Service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 10:00 - 12:00 at Palm Memorial Worden Chapel, 140 South 6th Street, Chowchilla, California.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 1:00 pm held at the Chowchilla District Cemetery, 23359 Road 14 1/2, Chowchilla, California.
