Gripina Vasquez age 87 of Chowchilla Ca., who loved to be called “Nani” by her family and close friends, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 23, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Gripina was born in El Centro, CA on June 11, 1934, she was the tenth of fourteen children born to parents Juana and Juaquin Vasquez.
Gripina was mother to Joe Lopez and Margaret (Maggie) Diaz. As a single parent with only a second grade education, she worked as a farm laborer and housekeeper to support, and raise her children in Planada, California. Gripina was known as a hard worker that put family first.
Her hobbies included making quilts, needle point and spending time with her family. She was most proud of being a grandmother and a breast cancer survivor of 25 years.
She is survived by her son Joe Lopez, her daughter Margaret (Maggie) Diaz, her son in law Rick A. Diaz, her grandsons Roman Diaz, Ryan Diaz and many nieces and nephews.
Aside from her children and grandchildren she doted on, “Nani” is survived by Rick Diaz, Brayden Diaz, Christian Hickman, Ty Hickman and Dylan Hickman.
A Rosary service for Gripina will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Palm Memorial Worden Chapel, Chowchilla, CA.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Columba Catholic Church on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Followed by graveside services at Chowchilla Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation at Komen.org., donations can be made in Gripina Vasquez’ name.
