Ellen Black

Ellen Black, 85, of Circleville, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2023. She was born on July 17, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to the late David and Stella (Harper) Chanak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; sisters-in-law, Judith Judy and Kate Haberstock; sister Sophie Kazala and Andy Chanak.

Ellen was very much a world traveler. From Mexico, skiing in Colorado to Athens Greece and many more adventurous trips! For many years she traveled to Englewood Florida with the Floridian Group. She moved 14 times until settling in Circleville, Ohio. Ellen established deep roots here with many fun loving and caring friends. Ellen was very involved with her community. She volunteered with Ameriflora exhibition, Friends of Berger Hospital, flower arranging with hospice, and the Pumpkin Show. Ellen was a member of Community United Methodist Church.

Ellen is survived by her daughter Laura (Doug) Ball, grandson, Spencer, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 17th from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Defenbaugh Wise Schoedinger, 151 E. Main St., Circleville, Ohio 43113. A celebration of life will immediately follow.

Jeannette Branham holds a special place in our hearts, and the entire staff at Promedica (hospice). They are truly the connecting bridge! To my extended family at Wyngate, Angel and the wonderful staff who were always there for Ellen, never to be forgotten and always loved!
