

He was born on June 20, 1930, in Deer Creek Township near Williamsport, Ohio, to Regina (Butt) and Jacob Carle. Joe graduated from Williamsport High School in 1948. He was a farmer his entire life, raising cattle and hogs, as well as corn, soybeans, and wheat.
On December 29, 1954, he married Mary Ann Ward, and they were married for over 67 years. Joe and Mary Ann were the parents of seven children.
Joe served in the United States Army in Korea from 1955 to 1956 as a Chaplain’s Assistant. He operated the NFO Livestock Collection Point in Williamsport for almost 30 years.
He is survived by Jacob (Leann) Carle of Williamsport; Mary Jo (Nathan) Thompson of Franklin, KY; Robert (Liz) Carle of Columbus; Edward (Joni) Carle of Hilliard; Patricia (David) Case of Chillicothe; Teresa (Phil) Downey of Hilliard; and his sister, Grace Elliott. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Jacob Carle, John Carle, Jesse Carle, Timothy Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, Jada Stuckert, Taylor Carle, Palesa Carle, Chelsea Carle, Katelyn Carle, Ashley Tackett, and Christina Picha; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brother, Lawrence Carle; his sisters, Anna Belle Lake and Agnes Jordan; an infant sister; and his son, William Carle.
Joe was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and helped with the church rummage sale for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, NFO (National Farmers Organization), and American Legion Post 618 in Williamsport. Joe enjoyed playing cards, attending farm auctions, and spending time with his family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Defenbaugh Wise Schoedinger Circleville, 151 E. Main Street, Circleville, OH 43113, with a rosary service beginning at 7:00 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 134 W. Mound St., Circleville, OH 43113. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 1151 N. Court St., Circleville, OH 43113.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Westfall Cares (Food Pantry) or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
