Billy was born in Johnston County on December 27, 1945 to the late William Waties Capps and Estelle Underwood Capps. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Vietnam War and was a purple heart recipient as well as the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism in Combat. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clayton.
Surviving are his son, Christopher W. Capps and his wife, Sonya of Princeton; daughter, Jane Capps Hardy and husband, Stewart of Hampstead; brother, Bobby G. Capps of Goldsboro; sister, Mary Capps Medlin of Clayton; grandchildren, Dean Hardy and wife, Deanna of Raleigh, Jordan Hardy of Hampstead and Shane Hardy of Raleigh; special friend, Susan Yamakawa of Clayton. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, William W. Capps, Jr., James Capps, Joe Capps, and George F. Capps.
Funeral services for Billy will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 11:00am in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00am. Burial will follow the services at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton.
