Ivan Augusto Otero

Ivan was born on June 29th, 1946 in Manati, Puerto Rico, a town known for its beautiful natural reserves. Ivan moved to Connecticut as a child, known to be an adventurous teenager. His early years were shaped by his family, his very close bond to his older sisters and a special bond he shared with his older brother Ralph. Ivan attended Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, CT and later received a technical degree from Bullard Havens Technical School in Bridgeport, CT.

After working in the vinyl mills of Ross and Roberts (Stratford), Ivan began a career as a barber. He made a name for himself in Bridgeport, CT where he owned and operated Otero’s Barbershop. He later followed his grandchildren and relocated to Garner, NC where he owned and operated Cleveland Cuts Barbershop.

Ivan was incredibly present in his family’s life, he coached his sons’ baseball teams, mentored his nephews and nieces and later lived vicariously through his grandchildren. Ivan loved music, dancing and singing. Ivan will be remembered for the silly songs he taught his grandchildren on the way to school, his dancing at the barbershop, his hilarious sense of humor, his ability to conversate with folks from all walks of life, his generous and kind heart and his warm and welcoming smile.

Ivan was predeceased by his father, Juan Otero; mother, Isabel Pineiro-Otero; siblings Naomi, Juabel and Rafael. Left to cherish his memory is his loving family: his wife of 50 years, Aurea; his three sons, David (wife Kelly, mother Mildred), Rafael (wife Yolanda) and Ivan (wife Gloria); his sisters Juanita and Amine (husband Jerry), his grandchildren Danelly, Kayleena, Cheynne, Dominic, Scarlett, Kalel, Ohanna, and Isabella; his great grandchildren, Elijah and Isaiah and his beloved pets Pepita and KC.

Well done Ivan, rest easy!

A visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 1:00pm - 3 pm, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2920 NC-42, Clayton, NC 27520.
