James Stanley Edwards, a retired Petty Officer First Class with the United States Navy, passed away at The Addison of Knightdale Assisted Living in Knightdale on May 9, 2021 at the age of 81. James was born in Pitt County to the late Joseph S. and Lillian H. Edwards on January 10, 1940. After retiring with 22 1/2 years of service with the Navy, James worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Pipe Fitter. He enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, fishing, coin collecting, metal detecting, and visiting flea markets.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Carol Parrish Lushene-Edwards; son, Scott Allen Edwards and wife, Patricia of Summerville, SC; daughter: Barb Edwards of Jasper, AL; step daughters, Misty Elaine Dunahoe of Moncks Corner, SC, Jacqueline DeAnne Lushene Allison and husband, Richard of Holly Springs; step son, Joseph Michael Lushene, Jr. and wife, Paula of Cary; brother, Jerry Wayne Edwards and wife, Kay of Vanceboro; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Edwards, Bobby Edwards and Donald Edwards; a sister, Annette Garris and a grandson, Kenneth Edwards.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 2:30 pm at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton. The family will receive friends following the service at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
