

A celebration of life will be held at the residence for family, friends and neighbors on August 12, 2023 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. to share memories and celebrate John.
John was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late George M. Troeger and the late Marian Sprague Troeger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son David.
He was a carpenter as well as a firefighter for 41 years. His firefighting career began in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1960, where he left as a Captain. Throughout his career, he served as Fire Chief in Xenia, Ohio 1973-1976; Urbana, Illinois 1976-1990; Green Bay, Wisconsin 1990-2001, where he retired. His greatest joy and achievement was being a Dad to his four children.
In his spare time, John loved to travel with his wife, most of the time visiting his children. His love of trains was present throughout his life. He also enjoyed golfing, grilling, and cooking. His peanut brittle and summer sausage were very popular around the holidays! His cheery spirit and witty sense of humor were unparalleled.
Married for 64 years, he is survived by his wife, Carol (Waalkes) Troeger; and his three children Debbie (Troeger) Shoemaker, Dana (Troeger) Anderson (Steve), and Anthony Troeger (Monica), Judi Troeger (Dave’s widow), and his sister, Nancy Marchywka. Five grandchildren Matthew Peters (Stephanie), Jordan Shoemaker (Kourteney), Alec Shoemaker, Jessica (Troeger) Sullivan (Gavin) and Kyle Troeger, and three great-grandchildren.
