MIDDLESEX – Johnny Wilbert Bailey, age 78, passed away peacefully holding hands with his wife, Mazie, on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at his residence.
A funeral service with Masonic Rites will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, June 5, 2021 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Creech officiating. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum of Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until 10:00 am on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at McLaurin Funeral Home, one hour prior to the service.
Johnny was born September 30, 1942 in Johnston County to the late Elefton Bailey and the late Dixie Brewer Bailey. He worked as a construction superintendent and retired in 2002 with 32 years of service with C. C. Mangum, Inc. Johnny was a member of Masonic Lodge 525 since 1985.
He enjoyed family dinners and outings. He loved boating and jet-skiing with his grandsons. He enjoyed playing cards with friends. He enjoyed the construction life and digging in the dirt so well that he founded and operated M&M Backhoe Service that laid County Water Lines in numerous Eastern NC counties.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers Joseph Willard Bailey and Robert Steve Bailey.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Mazie Massengill Bailey; two children, Sherri Overby (Eddie) and Johnny Bailey (Mary Lou); grandchildren, Bryan Overby (Lucy) and Justin Overby (Courtney); great grandchildren, Ethan Overby, Ian Overby, Bruce Overby, and Brayden Overby; and sister, Shirley Jean Creech.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Johnny’s memory to the American Heart Association.
