Joseph Edwin Capps

Joseph Edwin Capps, 90, of Clayton, North Carolina passed away August 27, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Joseph was born December 5, 1932, in Clayton, North Carolina to the late Chester and Stella Capps. Joseph, a native of Clayton, worked on the family dairy farm delivering milk before school every day. Joseph later joined the Air Force where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. This is where he met his wife, Ilse, of 54 years. She was the love of his life, and they were inseparable. Joseph was an active member of First Baptist Church of Clayton. He was very involved with his Sunday School Class, an active member of NBC since its beginning, youth events, and an active deacon. He shared his labor of love for more than 50 years as director of the baptismal ministry. Joseph was also an active member of the Clayton American Legion Post 71. His favorite past time was being with his grandchildren, who knew him as Opa, sharing his love of farming and gardening. He loved his dog, Henry, fishing, and spending his summers gardening so that he could share his fruits and vegetables with friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Stella Capps, his brothers, Raymond Capps and Sherrill Capps. He is survived by his daughter, Heidi Capps Wood, her husband Brent, and their daughters, Caitlin Wood and fiancé, Sana Suliman, Meredith Wood and boyfriend, Tim Bizzell; daughter, Stephanie Beasley and husband, Bryan Beasley, and their son, Randall Beasley Jr. and daughter, Emily Beasley; brother, Jerry Capps and his wife, Mary; sisters, Grace Hamilton, Tillie Wood and her husband, Steve and Lillie Capps; sisters-in-law, Mary Joyce Capps and Mary Rozella Capps and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Clayton on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church of Clayton or Transitions Life Care of Wake County.
