Katie was born in Johnston County to the late William and Ora Evans. She graduated from Four Oaks High School in 1950.
After graduation, she worked at Champion, then the former Sylvania TV plant as a tv tester for 16 years. She was married to J.B. Mitchell Jr. for 58 years. J.B., who was a Barber, in Clayton for over 55 years.
She is preceded in death by, her husband, J.B. Mitchell, Jr., Sister, Pauline Vernon, brothers, Victor Evans, Willie Evans, and William (Buddy) Evans. She is survived by son, Randy Mitchell (girlfriend, Lynn), daughter, Vickie Pyle (Philip), grandchildren, Eric Pyle and Lauren Pyle Mallett (Chad). Sisters, Rose Royal, and Gloria Hines, and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to all her neighbors, caregivers, doctors and nurses.
Katie was a long time member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Clayton and a devout Christian. Pastor Keith Holland will be officiating the Graveside Service. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 10, at 2:00 pm at Maplewood Cemetery, 504 S Smith St. Clayton, NC.
