Larry Gene Garner, Sr., of Clayton, North Carolina, passed away at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He was surrounded by his family as he peacefully transitioned to his final place of rest.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna Garner of Clayton, North Carolina, his mother and father, Effie and J.C. Garner of Beulaville, North Carolina, brother, Wilbur Garner of Beulaville, North Carolina, Russell Garner of Florida and son, Jeff Garner of Raleigh, North Carolina.
He is survived by his son, Gene Garner (wife Rahel) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, daughter, Becky Garner of Smithfield, North Carolina, as well as daughter, Jo Anne Garner Williams (husband, Alan) of Clayton, North Carolina, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, brother, Willie Garner of Leland, North Carolina and brother, Kenneth Garner of Wake Forest, North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, North Carolina, on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
