Born on September 26, 1955, in Huntington, West Virginia, Larry was the son of the late Tib Woods Price Sr. and Frances Medley Price. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Price, his sister Jerri Hensley, and his brother Tib Price.
A 1973 graduate of Vinson High School, Larry went on to serve his country with honor during a 24-year career in the United States Air Force. It was during his service that Larry met Susan, whom he married on February 10, 1979. Together they raised four children — Chad, Jonathan, Adam, and their late daughter Jessica — while living in various places throughout the world before settling in Clayton, North Carolina, in 2001.
Following his military retirement, Larry continued his commitment to public service with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where he served for 12 years before concluding his career.
Larry was a steady and dedicated family man. He took immense pride in his role as a father, especially in caring for Jessica, whose special needs he embraced with devotion, patience, and love. Being her caretaker was one of his proudest roles and a defining part of his life.
In his later years, Larry found great comfort in the companionship of his beloved schnauzers, who were always close by and brought him joy and peace. He also cherished the many close friendships he maintained throughout his life. These included lifelong friends Nick Zynko and Joe Dislavo, whom he met during his military service, and Jeffery Hudnall, a dear friend since high school. Larry also valued the friends he made later through those who adopted his dogs, as well as through the schnauzer rescue community.
Larry is survived by his sons Chad Price and grandson Noah of Apex, North Carolina; Jonathan Price and his wife Kelly, with granddaughters Josie and Kylie of Boynton Beach, Florida; and Adam Price and his wife Amanda, with granddaughters Charlotte and Piper of Clayton, North Carolina. He is also survived by Leslie Price, wife of his late son Lucas Price, and their children, his grandchildren, Hannah and William. Additional survivors include his sister Nancy Peters, whose husband Rudy preceded him in death, and their son Rudy Jr., his brother Roger Price, whose wife Jan preceded him in death, and his sister-in-law Nancy Price, wife of his late brother Tib.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Way of Life Baptist Church, Clayton, North Carolina to support their work in sharing the Gospel, or to Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas to honor Larry’s love for his dogs.
