

Mrs. Van Hoy was born in Smithfield, NC on September 7, 1944, to the late David Dallas Pope and the late Bertie Mahala Brummitt Pope. She was raised on a farm on Hwy 210 where she learned quickly that hard work and work ethics was the foundation of a successful life. Mrs. Van Hoy married her childhood sweetheart and soulmate the late George Harding Van Hoy on September 15, 1962, today would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary. She was a child Nutritionist Cafeteria Manager for 25 years with Johnston County Schools. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Her love for cooking, fishing, quilting and giving will be a legacy to be remembered by all that knew and loved her.
Mrs. Van Hoy is survived by her daughters, Wyndy Dudley and husband, Greg, Cyndy Van Hoy; grandchildren, Hana, Andrew, Leila, Austin, Sam, Caylee, Noah and Rusty; great grandchildren, Emma, Joseph and Aaliyah; brother, George Pope; sister, Elsie Smith.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Van Hoy was preceded in death by her son, Lynwood Van Hoy; brothers, Labron Pope, Verlon Pope, Ruben Pope, John Pope, and Billy Pope; sisters, Virginia Benson, Loreana Baker, and Carness Underwood.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 1:00 until 2:00pm. A memorial service for Mrs. Van Hoy will follow at 2:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home.
