

Malcolm Morton Bowen passed away August 7, 2023 after a 2-year battle with multiple myeloma. Born in Wayne County, NC on September 1, 1939, he was the youngest of 9 children of Henry F. Bowen and Emma Cole Bowen. Mac is survived by his son, Brent Bown and daughter-in-law, Kelly of Durham.
Mac served in the US navy where he toured all over the Pacific. After his Navy stint, he returned home to Wilson, NC where he married Judith Howard Bowen on September 15, 1961. In 1974, they settled in Clayton, NC where they lived the remainder of their lives. Judy's passing in November 2022 was hard on Mac as they were married for 61 years.
Mac spent many long hours in the insurance business, supporting his family. He and Judy loved each other dearly. Mac's two passions were bowling and attending Duke games with Brent. He and Brent saw over 600 Duke basketball games together and a couple hundred Duke football games. Mac's bowling career was highlighted by multiple 300 games, and over 30 years participating in the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships. One of his biggest wins was with good friend Ray Barnes, in the1997 State Farm Handicap Doubles Tournament at Westview Lanes in Wilson, NC. In the later years of his almost six decade accomplished bowling career, he could be found many nights at Rainbow Lanes in Clayton, NC. Arrangements have been entrusted to McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton.
