Born on August 9, 1942, in Micro, North Carolina, Mildred was the beloved daughter of JT and Lola Scott. Mildred shared a long and loving marriage with her husband, James “Dan” Hocutt. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter. She was a cherished mother to her daughter Sharon Fentem and son-in-law Timothy Fentem. Her role as grandmother brought her immense pride and joy—she adored her grandchildren Shari Labian and her husband Eric Labian, Alex Fentem, and Nick Fentem. Her legacy continued to grow with the arrival of her great-grandchildren Jonli Labian and Sarah Labian, who brought light into her later years.
Known for her quick wit and infectious sense of humor, Mildred had a gift for making those around her laugh. Her simple pleasures of life included playing solitaire, immersing herself in classic black-and-white films, and listening to old country gospel music that stirred memories and comforted the soul.
A gathering of family and friends honoring Mildred’s life will be held at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00PM. The interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park 12830 Clayton Boulevard Clayton, NC 27520.
