I want to extend my sympathy to the Gilmartin family. I worked with Pete at the P.O. until I retired in 2007.  He was a likable person and usually had a smile on his face.  We didn't work closely but he was always there to talk or for union advice.  One of the things that always stuck with me is how he would drive his little car for a 48 hour round trip to his ET training classes.  I know he will be missed...Ken White P.O. electrician

Dear Linda,
I am so sorry for your loss.  I used to work with Pete at the P&DC as an ET and also as one of his stewards.  I have very fond memories of Pete and I was lucky enough to see him this year out in the Outer Banks.  I remember he and I would talk often about your two boys and my two youngest boys and youngest daughter as they went to Clayton at the same time.  
I will always have fond memories of Pete and love the photo of him and Ralph in the notes section.  He was always a great defender of people and their rights.  I am sorry my wife and I cannot be there in person, Our oldest boy was killed almost three weeks ago and my youngest boy now has Covid and I did not want to expose anyone there to it.
Again I am sorry for your loss and know Pete and my son are in heaven.  Seeing your boys do the scout pledge reminds me of all the times Pete talked about them and their projects.  He was very proud of them and loved them very much.

Pete was a union man through and through. He was a real labor leader who was a strong advocate not just for postal workers but for all working people. He will be greatly missed by the NC AFL-CIO family.

In my very early twenties I first met Pete while working for the News and Observer.   Every night I would deliver papers from the printing press to drop zone where the carriers would pick up their papers for home delivery.   Pete knew I was struggling to make ends meet to provide financially for my family so he offerred me a job to help him with his paper route and eventually run his route solo so he could take some time off.   His generosity allowed me to stay on my feet financially and ultimately lead to my current successful career.  He was a leader by example and certainly inspired me to continue working hard and be the best man and father I could possibly be.   We lost a good man on this Earth, and Heaven gained a great angel.  My sincerest condolences to his family.

Pete was a great union guy, who cared deeply about the members he represented over the years. It was my honor to get to know him after moving to NC and attending union events in NC . He will be deeply missed. My thoughts are with his family during this time.

I am very sad to hear of Pete's passing , but forever thankful that I got to know this intelligent,  kind, and joyful husband, dad, son and brother. Everyone knew of Pete's love for his family and his union. He had great pride in teaching his sons how to camp, work on cars, fish and  take care of themselves.  Pete was a powerful unionist who stood up not down for what was right. My last voice message to him a few weeks, I closed by saying " I still think you're the best dad I've  ever known ".  Rest easy my friend you will be missed..

My condolences to the Gilmartin Family.  I worked with Pete at the Farmingdale office, he was easy to get along with.   He was extra nice to my son Kurt, when he came into the office.  My son Kurt was in the Boy Scouts and needed some camping equipment.  Pete was right there to help and gave him the equipment he needed.  It's a great loss for everyone who knew him and at such a young age.  God Bless and prayers sent. 

My deepest condolences to Pete's family.  May God comfort you during this time.  He loved his family deeply. Pete was a strong Union leader. I served as an officer and steward under Pete with Local 1078.  I also sat beside him on the executive board with North Carolina Council.  I learned so much from him.  I looked up to Pete for many years.  He will be greatly missed.

Becoming friends was instant and from going camping and coming to my wedding he was a true friend. It suck that Pete transferred down south but it was the best for him and his family.  We lost touch over years but almost every year we would get a Christmas card with a picture of the boys. So sad, Rest In Peace my friend.

Pete will be truly missed.  I could always depend on him to give me an answer whenever I had questions concerning a case.  Pete had the patience of Job, and nothing could shake him off of his course when it came to our Local 1078. Pete my brother, co-worker and friend. The light that kept this Local going will surely be missed by me and so many others. He would always love to share his knowledge. He would tell me every time I would tell him he was right about something he would reply I know it is a curse. Pete loved his union but his true love was his family we could not have our talks without talking about his beloved Linda and his sons PJ and Chris who he was so proud of them both weather it is when they became Eagle Scouts or just working on projects at home. I miss you so much my friend until we meet again.

I first met Pete in August 2002, when I was hired by the Postal Service. We got along great and became friends. He essentially mentored me as a maintenance employee and as a Union member. He was my steward, then Craft Director, then President.
Because of his mentoring I became a shop steward and then served as an officer in our local.
Pete was a great guy. He always worked 2 jobs to provide the best for his family.
He will be greatly missed.

I was very much sadden to hear of the passing of my friend, co-worker and Union rep.
Pete was a hard worker and inspiration to others.  Sometimes life is hard to figure out.  Challenges and obstacles arise that were never in our  plans.   I will keep the Gilmartin family in my prayers and thoughts as they go through this difficult time.
