“Chipper,” as he would be known to his parents and sister, was born on November 24th, 1947 in Milford, Connecticut to Wesley Arthur Cann Sr. and Harriet (Stanton) Cann. After growing up in Devon and Southbury, Connecticut, Wesley attended the University of Connecticut, graduating with a B.A. in 1969. Thereafter he received a J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School in 1972.
Wesley enjoyed a long, successful career in academia at his alma mater as a Full Professor specializing in International Business Law. There he won numerous teaching awards and published multiple highly-regarded articles in esteemed Law Journals, including The Yale Journal of International Law, The University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Economic Law and the Notre Dame Law Review, among others.
Wess would claim that his greatest achievements, however, were as a loving husband, attentive father, and involved grandfather. His devotion to family was unmatched. He provided a never-ending supply of laughter, an ever-willing ear, and a boundless supply of sage advice. Whether traveling with his beloved wife, Karla; watching college sports with his son Tyler; passing on his handyman skills to his daughter Jess; trading stock picks with his daughter Erika; tutoring his grandson Vincent in math; or listening to his granddaughter Julia sing, spending time with his family was Wess' greatest joy.
Wess enjoyed a long and fulfilling retirement, during which he was able to pursue his numerous interests and passions, including traveling, writing, reading, gardening, golf, and especially watching his beloved UConn Husky basketball and football teams.
Wesley is preceded in death by his parents Wesley Arthur Cann Sr. and Harriet (Stanton) Cann. His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife of nearly 56 years, Karla (Johnson) Cann; his son Tyler; his daughter Erika Cann-Moore and son-in-law Nicholas Moore; his daughter Jessica (Cann) Masciarelli and son-in-law David Masciarelli; his grandchildren Vincent and Julia Masciarelli; and his sister Linda (Cann) Pearson.
In accordance with Wesley's wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests instead donations in Wesley's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
