

He was born December 17, 1922 in McKees Rocks, PA, and the son of Paul Mc. And Hannah (Smiley) Burns.
George was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in England at the 188th General Hospital during WW II.
He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield, having served as a Lay Leader for four years, was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, he belonged to the United Methodist Men and also served on the Administrative Board.
George retired from R.K.B. Distributers as a salesman after six years also was employed by Stull Company and P.M. Burns Farm and Supply as a salesman and at Jeff Carns Equipment as a salesman until 2002.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #314, the Consistory of Altoona, Jaffa Shrine and Jaffa Shrine Oriental Band for several years, and the Clearfield Band for 54 years, Grampian Band for 30 years where he played the clarinet. He belonged to the American Legion, Hobby Garden Club and was a former member of the Clearfield Elks Club.
George is survived by two daughters; Barbara G. Hollback and her husband, Arden of Homeworth, OH and Kathy G. Stump and her husband Rev. Charles Stump of Belleville, seven grandchildren; Jerry Hollback, Linda R. McMaster, Debi A. Slutz, Robin S. Schleich, Sara M. Wilson, Nathanael Stump and Thaddeus Stump, twenty great grandchildren and a brother, Paul M. Burns of Chambersburg, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Vera (Wordley) Burns whom he married November 21, 1942 and who passed away on March 5, 2008, sisters; Maude Burns and Laura Margaret Burns, an infant brother, Jack Burns and brothers; Thomas and Robert Burns and a sister-in-law, Gloria Burns.
Funeral Services will be held at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Interment will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland. Military Honors will be accorded by the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and the VFW Post #1785 Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, July 19th from 6:00-8:00 PM and on Monday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the services. Masonic Lodge # 314 will conduct their memorial service on Sunday, July 19th at 5:45 PM.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the West Side United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund 317 Nichols Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
