Born on March 17, 1970, in the United Kingdom to Mary Oriska Cross and John Bruce Woodrow Cross, David grew up with a deep curiosity about the world and a lifelong passion for aviation. That passion became his calling, guiding him across the ocean in 2001 to the United States in pursuit of his dream of flying.
Not long after arriving, he met Dixie - the love of his life and his perfect partner in both business and adventure. They married in 2002 and built a life defined by love, determination, and shared dreams. Together, they founded and operated Sapphire Ring Company in Tampa, Florida, building it into one of the fastest-growing natural sapphire jewelry companies. In 2014, they expanded their vision to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, a place that would become especially close to David’s heart.
David lived life fully and with enthusiasm. Whether on the open road, painting, exploring his interest in aviation, or spending time at the gun range, he embraced each moment with energy and joy. He and Dixie especially treasured their travels together, creating a lifetime of memories exploring the world and spending peaceful time at their home in Hawaii.
Above all, David was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dixie A. Woodrow Cross; his parents, Mary and John Cross; his daughters, Brandy (Ian) Pollard, Amber Davis, and April Davis; and his cherished grandchildren, Kailey, Riley, and Emerson, who brought him immense pride and happiness. He also leaves behind his brothers, John Anthony Woodrow Cross and Phillip Andrew Woodrow Cross; his sister-in-laws Thassanee Cross, Loretta Buttry and Misty Green; his nieces and nephews, Dustin and Zachary Buttry, Austin Coniglione, Maddissen, Jorden and Jazmyn Green, Christina, Emily, Jennifer, Charlotte and John Cross; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. David was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Donald Pollard, mother-in-law Dorothy Pollard, his uncle Dr. Brian Gardner, his brother-in-law Rudy Buttry and nieces, Gabrielle Coniglione and Sidney Green.
David will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his drive to build something meaningful, and the deep love he had for those closest to him. His presence will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 750 San Salvador Drive, Dunedin, Florida 34698.
