Douglas proudly served our country as a Signalman in the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged on September 5th 1978 . He was also a valued employee at SemperMed as the assistant manager in the warehouse. Douglas was an enthusiastic advocate of Relay for Life and their support in helping the American Cancer Society to save lives from cancer. He was fun-loving and carefree and was in his element in the outdoors: camping, fishing, hiking, and relaxing on the beach were just a few of his favorite things. He was a beautiful person inside and out; as well as a loving father and grandfather.
Douglas is survived by his parents: Douglas and Eva Morton of Largo, FL; his brother Thomas Morton of Centerville, OH; his daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Nicholas Vassilopoulos of West Springfield, MA; his grandsons Carter and Blake Vassilopoulos of West Springfield, MA; and his fiance Mary Ann Carpenter of Dunedin, FL. He was sent off fondly to eternity with pictures of his family, his favorite shirt, and an ice cold beer to enjoy with his best friend Matty.
Douglas will be cremated because, as he said, “There are already too many people in the ground.” His ashes will be driven to the Veterans Cemetery in Agawam, MA in his favorite truck with his daughter Emily and son-in-law Nick, where he will be sent off ceremoniously by the Honor Guard. The date is TBA, he always did love spontaneity, so please contact Emily for more details. Thank you and make sure to live, love, and laugh in this short life; Doug would want it that way.
