

Edward Francis Ganzekaufer, age 70 of Oldsmar, Florida died unexpectedly on April 21, 2015 while on vacation with his wife, Maryella Ganzekaufer, in Bonaire. He was born on September 19, 1944. Ed is survived by his loving wife, his children, Nicole and David, his son-in-law Michal Dziegielewski, and his grandchildren, Sonja Maria and Luca Francis. Ed was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He married Maryella Tormos on December 16, 1972 and they enjoyed 43 happy years together. Ed was an avid fisherman, hunter and in his retirement he enjoyed extensive travels and made it to 25 countries and many states across the U.S. Ed was a loving, kind and compassionate man. He had a zest for life and a great sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Ed was born on September 19, 1944 in New York City. He was the fourth child of Joseph Ganzekaufer and Kathleen Flatley. He served his country in the United States Army where he received medals for good conduct and as a marksman. During his service, he received his GED from the United States Armed Forces Institute. Upon completion of his service he applied to the New York City Police Department (NYPD) where he served for 10 years, completing his service as an undercover officer in the Organized Crime Control Bureau (OCCB). While working as a police officer, Ed put himself through college and received his Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science and Criminal Justice from the New York Institute of Technology. Following his tenure in the NYPD, he joined the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) where he first served on ladder 163 and on engine 325 before transferring to ladder 127 and engine 298. Ed also served as an instructor for new FDNY recruits at the Training Center on Welfare Island. Ed was dedicated to community service and spent his life in service to others. He especially enjoyed his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America where he served for many years as a volunteer leader and as the Scout Master of Troop 413. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home located at 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759.
