

92, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Clearwater, Florida, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on January 31, 1933, in Evansville to Edwin and Clara Temme, he began his education at Trinity Lutheran School in Darmstadt and graduated from Reitz High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois, in 1955.
Edwin dedicated his life to education and ministry. His first call was to St. John’s Lutheran School in Fox Point, Wisconsin, where he served as both teacher and principal. It was there that he met the love of his life, Janet Schmidt. They married and shared nearly 69 years of devoted partnership.
In 1960, Edwin accepted a call to Peace Lutheran Church in Decatur, Georgia, where he established and led a Lutheran school until 1968. He then served Grace Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he continued his ministry until retiring in 1998. In recognition of his lifelong service, Edwin was honored with The Ben Eggers Outstanding Lutheran Educator Award in 1996.
After retirement, Edwin and Janet embraced their love of travel, exploring the U.S. and destinations abroad, and cherishing visits with family along the way.
Edwin is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, of 68 years, 11 months, and 13 days; their three sons, Mark (Lynn), Steven (Sherry), and Jeffery (Becky); eight grandchildren, Holly, Chris, Jennifer, Stephanie, Brian, Sean, Jaclyn, and Matthew; and twelve great-grandchildren, Allison, Mia, Kelsie, Keiran, Hunter, Grayson, Theodore, Sawyer, Jackson, Kaylee, Charlotte, and Triston.
A man of deep faith, unwavering dedication, and gentle spirit, Edwin's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through teaching, ministry, and family. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service for Edwin will be held Monday, June 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, 3166 McMullen Booth Rd, Clearwater, FL 33761.
