

Frank C. Kunnen, Jr. “BIG K” (88) was born June 12, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married his high school sweetheart, Laura Lou Jahn, who was a famous tennis player and together they raised 7 children. He attended the University of Florida after his graduation from Clearwater High School. Frank was the 693rd person in the state of Florida to apply for his General Contractors License and became one of the 1st General Contractors in the State of Florida. Soon after he started Big “K” Construction, Inc. which built several hotels on Clearwater Beach, a multitude of commercial/ industrial buildings, Seville Condominiums in Clearwater and most of the tennis courts that reside within the City of Clearwater. At the age of 33, he ran for the State House of Representatives. He served on the board of Adjustments of Pinellas County for 8 years and served as Chairman of the Board of Adjustments and Appeals/Reviews with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department for 8 years. He also served with the National Guard.
He is survived by his 7 Children; Frank C Kunnen, III “Chip” (Anita), John N. Kunnen, Dennis G. Kunnen (Bernadette), Michael A. Kunnen (Jenifer), Guy P. Kunnen (Melinda), Laura L. Lyons “Candi” (Doug), William T. Kunnen; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert “Bob” Kunnen and sister, Geraldine “Geri” Good. In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch.
