Gregory G. Bonadies was born on September 30, 1922 in Toco, Italy to the late Sam and Esterina Bonadies. Greg immigrated to the United States as a young boy and settled in New Haven, Connecticut where he graduated from Hillhouse High School. According to his late sister Violet, Greg did not want to leave his village in Italy; he took off and hid, as his mother was preparing for the journey to America. However, after settling in the United States, Greg became a patriotic American and enlisted in the Army immediately after graduating high school. After serving in World War II, Greg returned to New Haven and earned a bachelor’s degree from New Haven College, now known as Quinnipiac University. After earning his degree, Greg worked his way to Chief Sanitarian for the State of Connecticut.
Immediately upon retiring from the State of Connecticut, Greg and his beloved wife, Sylvia, relocated to Florida, making Highland Lakes, Palm Harbor their forever home, where Greg enjoyed over 25 years of golf, tennis and friendship with the Highland Lakes community. Beyond his career, Greg was an avid sports fan and a natural athlete. In fact, in his mid 90’s with a “bum” leg and a cane, he won a golf tournament at Highland Lakes.
Greg’s greatest joy was his family. He was a selfless and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He shared 67 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Sylvia. He was a loving father to Doreen (Jack), Laurie (Jeff), Greg (Simone) and Arnold (Toni); a proud grandfather to Nick, Meagan, Jack, George, Tom, Kate, Marcella and Iago; and a proud great grandfather to Emery, Elis and Corbin. Greg embodied the values of an earlier generation--hard work, dedication to family, and integrity. Honest, intelligent and fun to be around, Greg will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
