Joseph John Innamorata

Born on October 15, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph was the beloved son of the late Angelina and Frank Innamorata. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, reflecting a lifelong sense of duty, honor, and dedication.

Joseph built a strong work ethic early in life as a commercial painter with Hudson and Shatz in New York and as a member of the Communications Workers of America, Local 3179. A master of his craft, he often shared stories of working on some of New York City’s most iconic buildings—most notably gold-leafing the Prometheus statue at Rockefeller Center, a personal “claim to fame” he wore with pride and a bit of humor.

In 1986, he moved to Florida to be closer to his sisters, where together they opened “What Cooking,” a beloved Italian restaurant in Dunedin that brought joy to the community. He later continued his service through his work with Morton Plant Hospital and the City of Largo.

A man of deep compassion and generosity, Joseph devoted countless hours volunteering at Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. He was especially proud of the friendships he formed there, greeting veterans and visitors with warmth, kindness, and a welcoming spirit that left a lasting impression on all who met him.

If you knew Joe, you knew he was truly one of a kind. He never met a stranger—just people he hadn’t started talking to yet. Conversations with him were never short, never boring, and always memorable. He had a gift for turning everyday moments into unforgettable (and often hilarious) stories. Life will feel a little quieter—and a lot less entertaining—without him.

He loved God, his country, a good nap, and above all, his family. His greatest joy was spending time with those he loved, especially his cherished grandchildren, who were truly the apples of his eye.

Joseph was a member of the American Legion Post # 7 and Countryside Christian Church. He will be remembered for his humor, his storytelling, his generosity, and his unwavering love of life.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his siblings, Biagio A. Innamorata, Dolores Sexton, Concetta Miranda, Rose Kleiner.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 25 years, Sheila Innamorata; his daughter, Lori (Timothy Stimus) Innamorata, who was proud to inherit his love of life, passion for travel, deep integrity, and unmistakable sense of humor; his cherished grandchildren, Jake Dateno, Ryan Dateno, and Cody Dateno; and his siblings, Vincent Innamorata, Frank Innamorata, and Anthony (Kathy) Innamorata. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will continue to honor his legacy.

He was a character in every sense of the word, and those who knew him were better—and often happier—for it. Heaven has gained one truly amazing man.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759.

A committal service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513.
