Joseph Anthony Nobile of Clearwater, FL, and formerly of Glenwood Landing, NY, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Josephine, of 71 years, on Friday, April 30th, at the age of 97.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Joseph and Teresa Nobile. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas. He is survived by his younger sister, Josephine Arculeo.
Joseph lived in Fort Hamilton where he attended high school and later worked as a mechanic for the bus company. In 1941, he was drafted into the Army/Air Force in WWII and served in England also as a mechanic.
After returning from the war, he returned to work at the bus company working the night shift while helping his father during the day set up his grocery store. A year or two later, the two brothers started a home catering business. Joseph started courting Josephine in 1949 and eventually married in 1950.
The two brothers and spouses moved out to Long Island in 1950 to start a supermarket business in Glen Cove, NY.
By 1966 all his children were born Joseph, Marianne, Steven, and Lynn. He was a loving father and devoted to his children.
In 1965, Joseph and Thomas launched a business called Glenora Catering at the American Legion and Nights of Columbus. Five years later, they opened a restaurant called Nobile’s. It was a family affair with children, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Joseph and Josephine semi-retired to Florida in 1983 to enjoy the warm weather. He worked as a bus driver with Alamo at the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport until 1998.
He enjoyed concerts, cruising, and good times with family and friends.
Surviving are his children, Joseph Nobile of Westfield, NJ, Marianne Sharp of Clearwater, FL, Steven Nobile of Naples, FL, and Lynn Nobile of Palm Harbor, FL. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Joseph, Courtney, Bridget, Celestina, Richard, Christopher, Laura, Kristen, Casey, Daniel, Michael, Monique, Josephine, and his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia, Hugh, Boyd, Tyler, Kylie, Chase, Addison, Nicholas, Emma, Grace, Hailey, and Zoey.
Immediate family are invited for private visitation from 12 pm to 1 pm. Friends are invited for visitation and greeting the family from 1 pm to 2 pm on Friday, May 7, 2021. There will be a service performed by Father Ted at 2 pm at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home at 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, FL 33759.
