Lois Hudson Shelly

Lois Hudson Shelly, age 93, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022. She was born and raised in Rockville, Connecticut, now part of Vernon, CT, and became a registered nurse at Hartford Hospital. Married to an Air Force officer, she continued nursing at many places in the country, the longest at Patrick Air Force Base, FL. Lois was preceded in death by her parents Guy Hudson and Elsie Schreiter Hudson; and her husband Richard Rothenberger Shelly. After her mother died when Lois was 5, she lived with Walter and Bertha Backofen and their sons Alan and Albert. She is survived by her sister Dolores Hoermann; her sons Carl Hudson Shelly (Lynn) of Pittsburgh, PA, and David Hudson Shelly (Patricia) of Palo Alto, CA; by five grandchildren Benjamin, Jonathan (Morgan), Nicholas (Jacinda), Emily (Matthew Penner) and Elizabeth (Joseph Podnar); and by two great-grandchildren Ada and Caliope. For years, Lois and Richard were active at the First United Methodist Church of Clearwater and a big part of the Regency Oaks social scene, including singing, and other musical endeavors. Lois will be truly missed and loved. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (www.alzfdn.org).
