It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael "Wayne" Moak, age 77, of Hurley, Mississippi, who passed away on November 22, 2024. Wayne was born on February 17, 1947, in Pascagoula to the late Phillip Moak and Henrietta Moak (Cunningham). He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Sheridan "Buddy" Moak. He is a graduate of East Central High School class of 1965, graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Nuclear Engineering and served in the army during the Vietnam War.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Janice Moak, of 35 years. Wayne was a devoted father and grandfather, cherished by his children Nashira Howard (Wilf) and Shari Comp (Dan), and his stepchildren Doug Rosewarne (Melissa) and Mandy Larkin (Josh). His greatest joy was his role as a grandfather to eight grandchildren, with whom he shared countless memories and cherished moments. There was nothing he loved more than being with his grandchildren, whether it was a simple afternoon together or a day full of laughter and adventures. He will also be greatly missed by his puppy partner in crime, Dundee.
A passionate Star Trek fan, Wayne had an affinity for exploring the stars in the science fiction world and he was also an avid viewer of Fox News, enjoying discussions about current events and engaging in thoughtful conversations about the world around him. He loved Corvettes and each Christmas would ask Santa for a brand-new red Corvette in the driveway.
Wayne was a man of few words but immense warmth and kindness, always ready to lend a hand and offer a listening ear. His sense of humor and devotion to his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial gathering will be held for family and friends on January 11, 2025 at 1:00 PM. There will be a graveside service held in Mississippi at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Wayne's memory.
Wayne's legacy will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and all who were touched by his presence. He will forever be remembered with love and affection.
