Rachel Johnson, lifelong enthusiast of good books, good food, a good mystery, and her family, passed away peacefully after 95 well-lived years. Born on Christmas Eve, 1929, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Rachel made the world a brighter—and funnier—place just by being in it.
Rachel was passionate about her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, making sure that they were always happy and full. She also enjoyed reading, playing solitaire, and enjoying games on her iPad. She had a fondness for old movies, especially murder mysteries like Forensic Files, and looked forward to dining out. She also painted ceramic pieces to decorate her home with.
Rachel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Johnny Johnson Sr., with whom she shared many adventures and more than a few jokes.
She is survived by her loving children—Alex Johnson, Mary Krouskos, and Johnny Johnson Jr.; her daughters-in-law Joy Johnson and Jennifer Johnson; her grandchildren Brooke Johnson, Katie Leucona, Kristin Dayton, and Pete G. Krouskos; and her great-grandchildren, Layne and Orrin Dayton V, and Stefan and Leo Leucona.
A visitation for Rachel will be held at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, located at 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL, 33759, on October 31, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a committal service from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, every time someone settles in with a good mystery or says, “Let’s go out to eat,” or “Mom, will you make some kibbee and koosa for us please?”
