Sandy was a loving mother to her son, Michael, a supportive wife to Joe, beloved twin sister to Christy, treasured sister-in-law to Dan, and cherished aunt to her niece, Stacey, and nephew, Brian.
Sandy was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. She grew up in Madeira Beach with her “forever” best friend and twin sister, Christy Eckert, always by her side, and her beloved parents, Betty and Fred Ciara. She attended high school at Seminole Senior High graduating in the top 11% of her class. She then graduated with an AA degree in Banking and Finance from SPC. Sandy excelled at everything she did and gave 110% to every endeavor. She believed, “If something was worth doing then you always do your best.”
Sandy was a highly accomplished and sought-after Executive Secretary for a major part of her life. From 1972-1979, she was the Executive Secretary to the President of Landmark Bank of Seminole. From 1979-1992, Sandy was the Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Strategic Guidance Operations at Honeywell Inc. Sandy won the much coveted SARA Award (Secretarial Achievement Recognition Award) in 1988 at Honeywell Inc. She was chosen for this prestigious award over 185 outstanding location secretaries. For the last 8 years, she has enjoyed working at The Fresh Market in Clearwater, FL as the Front End Manager. Over the years, she received multiple customer service awards and had so many customer compliments that her name tag ran out of room for gold stars! She had to get a second badge just to accommodate all of her stars. Sandy was the bright light at The Fresh Market and customers would line up to go through her checkout line because they loved seeing her beautiful captivating smile and effervescent personality. She made friends with everyone she met!
Above all else, Sandy loved spending time with her family and helping anyone who needed her. In Greek, “Sandra” means “helper and defender of men.” That describes Sandy to the T. She would do anything that she could to help anyone in need. She was a strong Christian woman and everyone’s biggest cheerleader. Sandy was a constant source of support and endless love for those lucky enough to know her. If you needed help, Sandy was always there for you. She was a source of support and love to everyone that knew her.
Sandy was passionate about many things. She loved to cook gourmet meals for her family and enjoyed photography, her cats, bike riding with her brother-in-law, visiting Disney World with her twin “sissy,” and going fishing. She always caught the biggest fish! One of her happiest times in life was bass fishing with her precious “Poppy” and twin sister in the backwaters of the Withlacoochee River. When she was a young girl through her teen years, her mom and dad would rent a log cabin for a week during the summer. She loved the challenge of who could snag the biggest “Lunker” bass in the family. She would stand for hours on the riverbank with her cane pole catching catfish, brim, shiners, and even once hooked a cottonmouth snake! She had such a big heart for people and all creatures alike. She would feel so sorry for the bait fish held in the canoe baitwell that she would release them when her dad wasn’t looking. Of course, her twin was her ready accomplice. Her dad would then reach in for the next live bait fish and discover to his surprise that they were ALL gone. He would just scratch his head in sheer confusion!
Sandy absolutely loved everything Disney. She lived for the special fun getaways to the festivals each year with her twin.
Sandy was known for her infectious smile, quick wit, huge heart, and vivacious personality. She was truly a guiding light for so many people and she will be extremely missed by everyone that knew her. She was an absolute blessing in all of our lives and no one will be able to fill the void that she has left.
