Bill Rayburg, 77, originally of Newton, Massachusetts, and a resident of Clearwater, Florida since 2014, passed away on 9 March. Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and a thoughtful, steady presence to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He lived with quiet strength, deep faith, and an enduring sense of patriotism, proudly serving his country and caring for his family with the same unwavering commitment.
Bill graduated from Newton High School and the University of Tampa. He dedicated 25 years to the United States Navy, first enlisting as a Data Processing Technician before earning his commission. His career took him overseas to Spain, Japan, England, Iceland, and Italy, and included deployments aboard the USS Yosemite (AD-19) and USS Midway (CV-41). Bill carried his love of country throughout his life, and he took great pride in having served with honor alongside his fellow sailors.
After retiring from active duty, Bill continued serving his community through his work at Westwood High School for 10 years. He enjoyed travelling, camping, and attending sporting events. He was known for his kindness, his reliability, and the way he looked out for others—always willing to lend a hand, offer guidance, or simply show up when it mattered most.
A passionate Boston sports fan, Bill cheered faithfully for the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots, enjoying the camaraderie and tradition that came with every season. A man of strong faith, he was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 9916 and a devoted parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church in Clearwater, where his warmth and generosity were felt by many.
Bill was the beloved husband of Barbara for 53 years and loving father of Rebecca; Ben and wife Carmen; and Casey and wife Rose. He was a proud and loving grandfather, known as “Pap”, to Katie, Lauren, and Carl, finding his greatest joy in time spent with family. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Provoda of Chicopee, Massachusetts, and cousins across New England, Virginia, and Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Gerry Rayburg.
A funeral service will be held on March 17, 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church in Clearwater. Burial will follow at Bushnell National Cemetery.
