Winston-Salem- Mr. Alfredo Herrera, 85, died at his residence on February 18, 2013. A funeral service will be at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel on Friday, February 22 at 2PM with Fr. Brian Cook officiating. Interment will be in Forsyth Memorial Park.
Mr. Herrera was born in Cuyiascat, El Salvador and immigrated to the United States in 1967 hoping to provide a better life for his children than he had for himself. He lived in Hempstead, NY near his children and recently moved to NC to live near his daughter. With hard work and determination he provided a loving home and educations for all his children. He was the first person in his family to come to the US and enjoy the liberties here but he also instilled in his children to never forget their heritage and language. Mr. Herrera travelled back to his home country nearly every winter. He was an old school disciplinarian and believed in a strong work ethic, never accumulating debt, and doing for others. He was the first to do a favor and never forgot one done for him. He was an avid gardener and loved to plant vegetables.
He is survived by six children, William A. Herrera, Diane Herrera Castillo, Maria C. Marroquin, Marta Mendez, Dora Gonzalez and Nelson A. Herrera. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ofelia Herrera Cuellar. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a large extended family.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM, Thursday from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home. On-line condolences and floral tributes may be made at www.frankvoglerandsons.com.
