

Alvin A. Thomas, 93, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 20, 1924 in Melbourne, Fl. to Alvin A. and Clara Swaim Thomas. Mr. Thomas served in Marines from 1943 to 1946 in World War II in the Pacific as a corporal. For a time, he served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves. After the war he went to Wake Forest College and graduated with a BS in Physics then went on to Wake Law School and attained his law degree in 1954. He was assistant solicitor of Municipal Court from 1955 to 1957 and solicitor of Municipal Court from 1962 to 1964. In 1959 he was voted “Jaycee of the Year.” He last worked for, Reavis, Thomas and Poole law firm. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Lena Highfill Thomas; two daughters, Olivia Isentol and Tina Byerly; a son, Tony Thomas and wife, Susie; a granddaughter, Brandi Roberts; three great grandchildren, Jordyn Hickerson, Kevin Hennings, Jr. and Ryne Hennings; and a sister, Jane Betts and husband, Eston. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday March 2, 2018 at Frank Vogler and Sons Reynolda Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,1315 Ashleybrook Ln.
