Anna Michelle Lane Swanson

Michelle Swanson, age 43, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center, Palliative Care Unit. She battled with cancers for 14 months but remained an inspiration to all around her with her unfailing strength and love. She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on February 24, 1968. She was married to Jason Paul Swanson in the fall of 1993 and the mother of two daughters. She was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Michelle graduated from Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School in 1986. She graduated in 1990 from East Carolina University, majoring in Early Childhood Development and also graduated from Culinary Institute of America, Fox Valley, Wisconsin in 1997. Michelle was the original creator and co-owner of Simplyummy in Reynolda Village. She was active in local Earth Day endeavors and strived to institute greener living in her home and community.

She is survived by her husband, JP Swanson and two daughters, Katlyn Louise and Olivia Marguerite. Her extended family included her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Patrick Lane III and Mr. and Mrs. Deems Timothy Herring; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Swanson and Dr. and Mrs. Philip Golden; her brothers, John-Paul, Deems, David Herring; sisters, Jenny and Kimberly Herring; her brothers-in-law Justin Swanson (Tricia) and Joshua Golden.

Her memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4055 Robinhood Road Winston-Salem, NC 27106, on Tuesday May 31, 2011 at 4 p.m. followed by a reception. Her ashes will be scattered on a hillside in Luck, Wisconsin. Michelle’s request, in lieu of flowers, is that donations be made to the Unitarian Fellowship for the benefit of the Youth Program.
