Mocksville-Arthur John McCashin, Jr., 74, of Mocksville, NC passed away on August 1, 2013. An incredibly devoted husband to his wife of 28 years, Susan Beth McCashin, and an amazingly dedicated father to his children, James Sean McCashin and Mary Elizabeth McCashin. John was a mentor, father figure, coach, trainer, teacher, and friend to many. He is survived by his brothers, James McCashin, Fred McCashin, and Bruce McCashin, niece Kerry Batty, nephews Patrick McCashin and James McCashin Jr., and his cousins Peter Briggs, Priscilla Briggs, Sharon Fgrelli. He is also survived by his in-laws; father-in-law James Rodgers, mother-in-law Dawn Rodgers, sister-in-law Janice Rodgers, sister-in-law Dawn Lamb, and brother-in-law James Rodgers, Jr.
John leaves behind a lifetime of legacy. A noted horseman, John founded the Davie County Animal Protection Society with Earl Hammer in 1971. John was a volunteer animal cruelty investigator for the Davie County Sheriff’s Department from 1976-1986. John was race official for the National Steeplechase Association in North Carolina and South Carolina for over 40 years. John also was one of the 3 co-founders of the North Carolina Hunter Jumper Association (NCHJA) in 1973 and a licensed “A” judge. John was the President of National Horse Carrier’s Association for many years, having his own business with Carolina Horse Transportation for 18 years. John also served in the US Army under the Modern Pentathlon Unit.
Most notably, John was the founder and co-owner of Thoroughbred Training Center (TTC) with his wife in Mocksville, NC. John built TTC from ground up in 1973 and next to his family, TTC was his pride and joy. John changed lives of horses and riders under his instruction, patience, and guidance. To say that John understood the spirit of a horse would be an understatement.
John lived for travels out West to rodeos with his family and was actively supportive and involved in every aspect of his children’s lives. He was a remarkable father, husband, and caretaker to his family’s 13 dogs and countless horses. His family and his animals could not ask for a better man to share their lives with. He taught his children lessons and trades that will last them through their lives and was a devoted and dedicated husband to his wife. Together their family unit was, and will remain, an unstoppable one.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Triad Trackers Wheelchair Basketball team, the Davie County Humane Society, or Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund that offers support to injured rodeo cowboys and their families. John would want nothing more than to help benefit someone else and continue to make a difference.
Services will be held at 11am Saturday, August 3rd at Thoroughbred Training Center, 158 McCashin Lane, Mocksville, NC 27028.
Dress is casual, just as John would have wanted.
Now there's one less tornado in Texas
And a saddle that's empty tonight
There's one hell of a cowboy in Heaven
At that big rodeo in the sky
