Barbara Ann Schoen Markowski

Barbara was a talented woman who enjoyed sewing and crafts but could also fix anything and had the tools to prove it. Before moving to Winston Salem, she was the Director of Religious Education at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Bordentown, NJ. Barbara also enjoyed horseback riding and bought a horse after her retirement. She participated in local horse shows winning several blue ribbons. (Not that the competition in the over 73 years old category had many participants). Barbara was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Winston Salem, NC.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Louis Markowski; two daughters, Lauren Pascual and Dawn Lerza (Paul); five grandchildren, Drew, Zachary, Jake, Ray and Angelina; and her sister, Joan Vela.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Esther Schoen; her brother-in-law, Antonio Vela; her sister-in-law, Annette Sullivan, brother-in-law Mort; and beloved horse Tommy.

A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Westlawn Garden of Memory.
