Chuck was a retired Computer Scientist from AT&T Bell Labs, where he was a Bell Labs Fellow and had been a computer scientist at Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren, VA, prior to AT&T. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Physics, from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana and his Masters Degree from Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Virginia. He also attended Stanford University on a NSF Fellowship, until called to the Navy. Chuck was also a medically retired US Navy Ensign. He was an active member of multiple singing groups, including the choirs for St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Hillsville (Virginia) Presbyterian Church, Gulf Coast (Mississippi) Chorale, and The Highland Camarata (Virginia). Chuck truly enjoyed helping people fix things, from broken chairs to advanced computers. Chuck's favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He loved to go hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and attend Bluegrass Concerts with his family.
Chuck was predeceased by his mother, Bernice Flink Augrain, and his Father Charles W. Flink. Chuck is survived by his wife Anna Howerton Flink, children Robert H. Flink (Anne), David S. Flink (Minh), Johanna F. Tuttle (John), and Susan M. David (Tim), his grandchildren Abigael, Timothy, and Isabel David, Haley and Madison Tuttle, and Olivia Flink; as well as his sister Barbara F. Bordelon. He is also survived by many greatly loved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11am at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Ave. Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
