Dorothy, the youngest of six children, was fortunate enough, with the foresight and aid of her 2 older sisters, to pursue a college education and graduated from Salem College. She then taught in the public school system until her marriage to Kenneth at which time she joined him in Chapel Hill as he completed his college degree. They also started their family while attending UNC. She resumed her teaching career later but more children ended her professional career and she began her full time career as Mother and Grandmother.
Dorothy was a long time and active member of Oak Summit Methodist Church in Winston-Salem and thoroughly enjoyed her time spent performing in the choir. She was an accomplished piano player and filled in when needed. Dorothy was also very active in the Oak Summit School PTA as her children advanced through the grades.
Following her husband's lead, she took up golf later in life and was an active member of the Pine Brook Country Club 9 Hole Lady golfers and enjoyed the fellowship of many fine golfing women from the Winston-Salem area.
Words can't express the love and compassion she had for her family and life, but these below come close. These words on a tattered book mark found in her worn Bible summarizes this remarkable woman's life:
You're always in my heart.
A mother shares so much, cares so much, gives so much.....
There will be a Private Family prayer gathering at her burial on Friday morning at Forsyth Cemetery.
Please send any commeratives to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice CareCenter in Winston-Salem as this facility was so instrumental in caring and comforting Dororthy during her last days on earth and may be able to keep helping and assisting others on their last journey.
