

She was born in Iowa to Charles and Veronica Matts Jaeger on July 5, 1927.
Elizabeth proudly served her country as a lieutenant in US Navy as a flight nurse. She was stationed at the US Naval Hospital in Bainbridge, Maryland. She was a member of the medical team of the TransPacific portion of MATS Operation Wounded Warrior, an accomplishment which gave her much pride.
She was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Winston Salem. Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who loved spending her time with her family and friends. In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoyed traveling. She traveled around the world and back on The Concorde.
Her family and friends will miss receiving her personal and eloquent cards.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Douglas Clayton Turnage; sister, Shirley J. Dodsen; brothers, William Jaeger and Robert Jaeger; and brothers-in-law, John Nothdurft and Jack Pruitt.
She is survived by her loving husband, Fred D. Turnage; daughter, DeeDee (Sam) McDermott; step children, Betty (Ross) Griffith, Diane Lanigan, Dale (Russ) Laney, and Don (Cyndy) Wood; siblings, Rodney Jaeger, Jack (Betty Jane) Jaeger, and Jean Pruitt; sisters-in-law, Doris Jaeger and Peggy Jaeger; 15 grandchildren, multiple great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday at 11am at Davis Chapel at Wake Forest University. Davis Chapel is in Wingate Hall attached to the back of Wait Chapel. Vogler & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family would like to say a special thanks to her doctor, Patti Klein, the aides from Piedmont Home Health Care, and the Arbor Acres staff for their compassion and care during such a hard time.
