

Lewisville- Mr. Jackie Brown Smithson, affectionately known as "Smitty", departed this life on May 23, 2012 and was welcomed into the arms of the Lord after declining health for several months. He will be greatly missed by family friends and all who knew him.
He had a winning smile and a magnetic personality. He served his country in the US Army from 1965 to 1969. He was instrumental in forming the original Country Corvette Club in the 1970's and he also served as president of the club. He won several awards for his classic corvettes. He was the owner of Smitty's Body Shop in Kernersville and was able to persue his passion for restoring classic cars for which he was well known. He was also a member of the Masons Lodge # 669.
He is preceded in death by his wife of forty one years, Janice Scott Smithson in 2003, his mother, Florine Raum in 1997 and his grandmother, Ruth Snyder. He is survived by his second wife, Louise Franklin Smithson; son, Gregory Adam Smithson; daugther, Shannon Leigh Smithson Lyons; and two grandsons, Zachary Scott Lyons and Harley Barret "Bear" Lyons to whom he was lovingly known as Papa Smitty. Also surviving are his brother, Jim Smithson and his sons, Steve, Craig and Jimmy; six step children, six step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren who loved him dearly.
Mr. Smithson will lie in state beginning at 9 AM Saturday, May 26, at Frank Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11AM to 12:45 PM followed by a service in the chapel at 1 PM officiated by Reverend Steve Autry. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Brenner's Childrens Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children or the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission. Smitty supported the work of all these organizations.
