

John was born June 25, 1923 in Peltzer County, SC, the son of the late George and Annie Bargoil Bell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife June Edwards Bell of Hillsville, VA and daughter in law Judy C. Bell. John married the love of his life, June, on October 2, 1947. He was an active member of College Park Baptist church and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). He worked as a farmer in Hillsville, VA and later came to Winston Salem. John worked for 36 years as the No 1 employee on Winston Salem’s dock seniority list with Roadway Express as a tow motor operator, known as “Johnny” on the dock. John loved life and his family. He kept a good attitude by considering every day a challenge. He enjoyed reading, music, gardening, and family outings. He was a moral man who set examples and standards for integrity and honesty. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He loved to entertain with his jokes and stories of life experiences.
Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Bell Moser of Winston-Salem; two sons, John C. Bell, Jr. of Lewisville and Ronnie L. Bell and wife, Margret of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Johnny L. Moser and Erich L. Bell and wife Allyson both of Winston-Salem, and a step-grandson, Jerry Greene of Winston-Salem and two great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday July 19th at Frank Vogler and Sons, Reynolda Chapel by Rev. Raymond Smith of College Park Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
