

Matthew, fondly known as Matt, was born to Patrick and Valerie Kane, on March 19, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana. At 15 months of age, Matt, his twin brother Patrick, and his parents moved from New Orleans to Bronx, New York. He was a talented student, strived to learn something new every day, and loved to play sports with his twin brother. Matt graduated from IONA University in New Rochelle, NY and was a proud member of the Platoon Leader Class (PLC) program. After graduating from college, Matt proudly served in the United States Marine Corp achieving the rank of Major, where his children fondly referred to Matt as “Major Dad”.
Aside from his love for his family, Matt was passionate about giving back to the community. He was always the first to sign up for a Habitat for Humanity event, volunteer his time to a fundraiser, especially for military veterans. He was an original member of the ROMEO's (Retired Old Men Eating Out) at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, NC.
Matt is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Claire, and their five children; Chris, Peter, Barbara, Matthew, Jr. and Noel. He is also survived by his twin brother Patrick Joseph Kane, Jr. He is predeceased by his son John Patrick. Matt was most proud to be called Grandpa by his fourteen grandchildren and his four great grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, North Carolina on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 11:00 AM-ET. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project in the name of Matthew J. Kane Sr.
