Peggy Tyson Rogers, 82, passed away peacefully at home, September 28, 2016, surrounded by family. She was born June 8, 1934, to James William Tyson and Esther Juanita Tyson in Stantonsburg, North Carolina. After graduating from Greensboro College in 1956, Peggy taught elementary school in Wake County for 32 years. In Raleigh, she was a devoted member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church, where she was active in the choir for 50 years. In 2009, she moved to Winston-Salem to be closer to family where she was immediately embraced by the community of Highland Presbyterian Church.
Making friends was her favorite folly; she spread joy through her keen sense of humor, warm embrace, and quick wit. Music was a constant passion. She performed from a very young age at events and as part of church choirs. She shared her musical talents and love for music with friends and family alike.
She enjoyed gardening, entertaining, family gatherings, teaching her many students, spending time with grandchildren, playing the piano, nurturing her friends and painting.
She is survived by three daughters, Jane Peatross Driscoll (Mark), Carol Peatross Watt (William), Rebecca Peatross Reynolds (Jeffrey); seven adoring grandchildren: Wyatt, Max, Will, Abby, Jane, Wesley, and Seth; and her devoted brothers, James William Tyson Jr. (Fran) and Andrew Branch Tyson (Peggy).
In lieu of flowers her family request gifts be made to the Highland Presbyterian Music Ministry. Services will be held Friday, October 7, 2016, at 11am at Highland Presbyterian Church located at 2380 Cloverdale Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC.
Services provided by Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home, Winston-Salem, NC.
