IN THE CARE OF

Frank Vogler & Sons

RUTH ELIZABETH (BETTY) ENGELHARD, moved to heaven on October 2, 2022 from the Trellis Supportive Care Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Betty lived up to her last name Engelhard, which in German means “Angel heart”. She was an Angel for so many people, always a giving and loving person. Betty got her sense of joy, fun and living life her way from her Irish heritage.

Betty graduated from Hampton High School in Hampton, VA; Lenoir Rhyne College (now university) in Hickory, NC; and the Southern Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, SC. Her work career was a life of service as a religious educator, juvenile social worker, vocational rehabilitation counselor, case worker for social services and librarian for the Phoebus and York County School System in VA.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, John Engelhard and Anne Pattison Engelhard of Hampton, VA; her brother-in-law William Engelhard Amos and her nephew Douglas Garbee Amos. She is survived by her twin sister Katherine Engelhard Amos of Clemmons, NC; her niece and nephew Leisl and Wendall Wood of Lewisville, NC; her grandnephews Nathan Douglas Wood of Winston-Salem, NC and Zackery Thomas Wood (Kelsey) of Knoxville, TN; her cousins Barbara Callahan of Elkin, NC; Donald Pattison (Cathy) of Wytheville, VA; Ronald Pattison (Joan) of Goose Creek, SC; Tony Callahan of Elkin, NC; Cherie George (Dave) of Wytheville, VA; Jay, Tammy and Beau Callahan of Elkin, NC.

Betty had many friends that she loved dearly, including her house mate John Howell of Clemmons, NC; Drusilla Groce of Virginia Beach, VA; Sandy and Jerry Cobb of Hampton, VA; Maurice and Bettye Briggs of Clemmons, NC and Emily, Richard and Levi McQueen (her Godson) of Pembroke, VA; and Angie Burton of Kernersville, NC.

A memorial service is planned for Betty in November of this year at her church in Jonesville, NC.

The family is most grateful for the excellent care and compassion that Betty was given by the K.B. Reynolds Hospice Home (Trellis Supportive Care) in Winston-Salem, NC and requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
