

Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth (Betty) Benbow Baldwin, 86, passed away Monday, September 23rd, 2013 in Winston-Salem, NC. Born October 24th, 1926 in Orlando, Florida to the late Virginia Johnston and Richard Porter Benbow, she grew up in Winston-Salem. She attended Guilford Woman's College and after, worked for the Office of Flying Safety, the Veteran's Administration, and Security Life & Trust Co. before marrying Louis B. Baldwin on December 29th, 1951. Betty was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church as a child, College Park Baptist Church as an adult and later returned to Centenary UMC where she was in the Clay Chandler Sunday School Class and was a United Methodist Woman. She was also a member of the Twin City Woman's Club, the Coterie Club, the Olympic Club, the Linville Golf Group & Forsyth Country Club. She was a daily volunteer at the Moravian Home for over 20 years. She loved her home at Lake Norman and a long, sunny boat ride. Her greatest love was being a devoted wife, a fabulous homemaker and mother, and the best grandmother to her six grandchildren, who called her "Darling". She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Louis Barley Baldwin, and her sister, Marjorie Benbow Holcomb. She is survived by her three children: Vicki Elizabeth Baldwin Dresser and her husband, Tom, Virginia Anne Baldwin (Ginger), Louis B. Baldwin, Jr and his wife, Leslie, and the grandchildren: LTJG Thomas Maxwell Van Dresser and his wife, Kaelyn, Virginia Elizabeth Dresser, Michael Payton McCollum, Jr., Anna Porter McCollum, Henry Louis Baldwin and William Louis Baldwin. She is also survived by a very special brother in law, Bill Holcomb, and many cherished friends and relatives. A visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 26th at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road. A funeral service will be Friday, September 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
