

Walter Charles Dietrich, 85, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, April 16, 2012. He was born in New York City and lived there until he went into the Air Force during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Marie Rupp Dietrich and his half-brother, Frank Dietrich. He is survived by his wife, Doris of the home; sons, Walter Charles Dietrich, Jr. of Yorktown Heights, NY; Barry Dietrich and wife Terry of Greenville, SC ; daughter, Jody Dietrich-Bond and husband Lloyd of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Peter, Joshua, Monica, Jeffrey, Daniel; Dinah; Ingrid, Justin, and Samuel; and very dear cousins and nieces and their spouses here in the United States and Europe. After his military service, he was accepted into the four year apprentice program of Eastern Airlines. He became a Flight Engineer for Eastern Airlines and Lufthansa German Airlines. He then started the Aviation Division of Blue Bell Corporation which was called Wangler Aviation. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and visiting his many friends and relatives. He also enjoyed golf and tennis, and his time at the Central YMCA where he made many friends. He especially enjoyed helping his grandchildren to better themselves in every way possible. He was known to be a generous man, and he will be missed by those he helped, but especially his family. He was a member of Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. by Father Brian Cook with interment to follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel.
