Abe C. Kochman

ABE C. KOCHMAN, age 97, died peacefully on March 27, 2015 in Cleveland, Ohio, after a sudden brief decline. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Glanz Kochman and loving father of Stefanie Steidley (K. David), Andrea Schnall (Dr. Adrian M.), and Sunny Kohn (Harry J.). He was very proud of his five grandsons and their wives - Matthew D. Schnall (Jessica Steigerwald), Timothy Robert Schnall, Michael A. Schnall, Dr D. Eric Steidley (Dr. Debora Gama Lima), and Adam L. Steidley (Anastasiya Steidley). And he found much joy in the charms, accomplishments, and beauty of his great grandchildren, Julia and Zachary Steigerwald Schnall, and Isabella and Dylan Steidley. He was predeceased by all six of his brothers and sisters: Adele Newby, Elizabeth Gates, Matilda Cohen, and Ben, Sanford, and Leo Kochman. Abe was a graduate of East High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II stationed in Tallahassee, Florida, and was a longtime employee of Royal Chemical Company in Twinsburg, Ohio, retiring in 2013 at the age of 95. He was an avid sports fan who closely followed the Browns, Cavaliers and Indians and loved sharing his opinions on the virtues and vices of the teams and their players. But Abe's true passion was golf. He could be found hitting the links with his brother Ben and other golfing partners several times a week during the spring, summer and fall months well into his 90's. He adored animals and telling stories about the three Tonkinese cats who shared his life for eighteen years, and the young cat who was with him until he died. A service will be held Friday, April 3, at 11 A.M. at The Temple - Tifereth Israel, 26000 Shaker Blvd., Beachwood, Ohio, and the family will receive friends there immediately following the service until 4 P.M. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may make a donation in Abe's name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, whose staff helped make his last few days so comfortable, or Geauga Humane Society which was one of his own favorite charities.
