Carol Strassman

Carol was the cherished daughter of Faye and Dr. Selig S. Strassman (both deceased), adored sister of Nancy (Kevin) Kascak, Jim (Debbie) and Bob (JoAnn, and Lisa, deceased); beloved aunt of Alec Strassman (Jess Koski), Heath Strassman and Kimberly Kascak; dearest niece of Loraine and Alan Zuckerman (both deceased) and Joan (deceased) (Don) Miller; beloved cousin to Gary (Cynthia), Ken, and Brian (Liz) Zuckerman, and Sharon (John) Spellman, Linda (John) Rotondaro and Dan Miller.

Carol was born April 9, 1955, in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Shaker Heights and Beachwood. She excelled in class, developed a lifelong love of reading, joined academics with athleticism as a Beachwood High cheerleader, and mastered playing the piano beautifully. Family and friends have memories of gathering around Carol at the piano to sing Beatles, Chicago and other classic tunes. She was a graduate of Miami University and Case Western Reserve University School of Law. In a long and successful career as a Workers’ compensation attorney at various firms, she traveled throughout Ohio, arranging and leading annual continuing education seminars for decades.

While cheering for the Cleveland Browns was a family affair, Carol’s enthusiasm for the Cavaliers and Indians (now Guardians) came later, as she developed an encyclopedic knowledge of the players and broadcast schedules.

When debilitating illness struck young, Carol toughed her way through, maintaining her incisive mind, work ethic, and mastery of a myriad of topics. The daughter of a physician and nurse, she took charge of her own care and amazed medical professionals with her deep understanding of terminology, options and treatments. She shared this expertise with any who needed help as health issues arose.

Graveside service only, Monday, June 30, 11:00 am at Bet Olam Cemetery, 25798 Chagrin Blvd., Beachwood. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to Hospice of the Western Reserve (hospicewr.org) or the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation (crohnscolitisfoundation.org/chapters/neohio).
