Caroline J. Triefler passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025 at Anna Maria of Aurora surrounded by loved ones. She was born on March 22, 1931 in Cleveland, OH to Szeren and Herman Breitbart. Carol will be remembered for her tenacity, sense of humor, and love for her family. Raised by a single mother in the Jewish Projects of Cleveland, Carol, a tomboy at heart, loved to run, play baseball, and climb trees. A devoted student, Carol graduated as valedictorian from John Hay High School at age 17 and received a scholarship to study at Cleveland College, which she attended for 2 years. After graduating, she began work as an executive secretary.
In 1956, Carol met Dan Triefler serendipitously at Geneva-on-the-Lake. Their first real date was a drive out to get a cup of coffee in Ashtabula and from then on they were inseparable. They were married less than a year later and shared 68 glorious years together while raising their two girls. An enthusiastic sports fan, she ran the football pool during her many years as an integral employee at Bilitron where she worked for over 30 years. You could often find her listening to Indians games on the radio.
After their retirement, Carol and Dan embarked on fulfilling their dream of world travel, marveling at the sites of the Great Wall of China, Japan, Israel, Alaska, and Italy. Carol was also very involved with PAWS Ohio working as their volunteer coordinator and creating their “PAWS-4-A-CAUSE” adopt-a-thon.
Dan and Carol comfortably spent their later years at Anna Maria of Aurora, enjoying many new friendships and carefree living. She often shared how content she was with her life. When asked what she would wish for the future she would always say “more of the same.”
Those honoring Carol’s legacy are her daughters Lori (Joel) Garmon, Prospect, KY and Lisa (Rand) McFarland, Grand River, OH; granddaughters Allison (Aaron) Goldhammer, Shaker Heights, OH; Sara (Graham) Hall, Prospect, KY and Emily (Jordan) Friedman, Long Island, NY; great-grandchildren Stella and Levi Goldhammer and Grayson and Olivia Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Dan, only four days prior. They spent 68 years together and are now together forever. Their hearts were truly beating as one.
Private graveside service will take place at Lakeview Cemetery on Friday, March 7th. To view the service Sunday, March 9 please go to YouTube and search Daniel and Caroline Triefler Funeral Service.
